World Environment Day is a timely initiative that reminds us that one of our greatest assets is nature and the wealth that it can give us when is managed sustainably, said Bruno Pozzi, Director, Europe Office for UN Environment Programme, at Business Review’s recent Environmental & Sustainability Summit 2020, in a pre-recorded message that we reproduce below.

“We are living through unusual and challenging times, as COVID-19 is changing our way of live. The United Nation Environment Programme stand beside countries as they tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. We are refocusing our work to build back better and increase resilience to future crisis by working with nature.

Our response is to support member states in addressing immediate challenges for the medical emergency to improving management waste systems. To work with science and politics to a better health for the planet. To stimulate the green opportunity in the long run with renewable energy, smart cities and infrastructures, green jobs, sustainable consumption and production.

The theme of the 2020 World Environment Day is ‘It’s time for nature’. This year, we are issuing an urgent call to combat species lost and degradation of the natural world at the hands of human activities. World Environment Day is a timely initiative that reminds us that one of our greatest assets is nature and the wealth that it can give us when is managed sustainably.

The topics you addressed at this Summit will greatly help to work with nature at local and national level. The time is right to switch to green energy, agriculture that is more sustainable, more public transport and better waste management. All of this will also contribute to Agenda 2030 to sustainable developments and goals and the Paris agreement on climate change.Read more aboutAdrian Apostu (Dino Parc Râșnov): 2 million visitors represent a milestone that makes us both happy and responsible read more

They remain our only option for durable recovery. Every effort counts and the contribution by the society in Romania is reflected on millions of other people around the world. For us, well managed ecosystems, clean air, safe water and a sustainable economy is not a dream, but a goal.

I wish you much success in building a green future for all and everyone in Romania.”
