All governments, international organizations and other stakeholders are invited to use the International Year to highlight the value of mountain ecosystems. Drinking water, sanitation, and sustainable modern energy are among the basic services that are limited in many mountain regions. Mountain ecosystems require special measures to adapt to and mitigate climate change.
