The view from MIPIM 2018

Emerging Europe has spent the past three days in the sunshine at Cannes, at MIPIM – the annual investment and real estate fair. As big as ever, this year’s event placed a great deal of emphasis on innovation, talent and skills, all combining to create solutions to the challenges that the world’s cities are currently facing.

It’s with not a small amount of pleasure that I can report emerging Europe has been highly prominent this year, bringing to the table a vast amount of exciting projects, and in the case of many cities a real vision of the kind of future they are building. Having spent the past few days chatting to tens of mayors and ministers from across the region, it is clear that there is a great deal of shared value, and there appears to be a willingness between the various cities and regions to cooperate that we have not seen before at this level. Listening to the mayors of Kyiv and Poznan discuss common public transport issues was just one example of the kind of practical shared experience and knowledge transfer that our region needs.

Over the next few days we will be publishing some of our chats with the emerging Europeans who have been making waves on the Côte d’Azur right here at emerging-europe.com/multimedia.

Two of the interviews I recorded are available already: one with Warsaw’s charming mayor Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, and another with the former boxer now looking to bring more investment to Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko.
