Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is a transfer target for Chelsea as they look to strengthen their squad.

They might be European champions but they have looked disjointed in recent months and additions are needed.

Injuries haven’t helped the situation but signing De Jong is reportedly on the agenda as the Dutchman falls out of favour in Spain.

One of the most highly-rated youngsters in world football in 2019, he is another of Ajax’s Champions League heroes who has failed to kick on after leaving.

Having gone on an unlikely run to the semi-finals of the competition that season, Barcelona won the race for his signature but he’s failed to reach the level hoped at the Camp Nou.

Now, in another disappointing campaign, the Catalans look set to give up on the player as they plot a rebuild.

Barcelona, according to El Nacional, want around £50m but could drop their asking price give the cash is vital to their long-term project.

But Fabrizio Romano confirmed LaLiga giants Barca had not yet received a bid from Chelsea for £33million or any other amount, while it’s believe Bayern Munich are also keen on the player.

Meanwhile, the Blues are also in the market for a full-back this transfer window as they hunt for cover with Reece James and Ben Chilwell out injured.
