Katie Taylor will not be facing Amanda Serrano in a rematch next, but could be set for a huge fight of a very different nature.

Last time out, Ireland’s pound-for-pound queen of boxing retained her undisputed lightweight world titles in a thriller against Serrano at MSG in New York.

Due to the close and exciting nature of the fight, attempts have been made to stage a rematch next.

However, Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn has insisted that Serrano’s team have turned this opportunity down.

Her next fight is now set to take place on the undercard of her promotional partner – YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

So what next for Taylor?

According to Sports Illustrated and DAZN reporter Chris Mannix, she is in negotiations to face MMA legend Cris Cyborg in a boxing match December.

It’s claimed that no deal is done yet, but the idea would be for Taylor vs Cyborg to happen at the end of this year and then for the Irishwoman to move forward to a rematch with Amanda Serrano in Ireland in Spring 2023

Cyborg is an MMA legend being the only fighter in history to win world titles across four major mixed martial arts promotions, making her a ‘Grand Slam Champion’.

She is the current Bellator featherweight champion and previously held the UFC featherweight crown.

Now 36, Cyborg is seeking a new challenge altogether.

If the Taylor fight does come to fruition, it will be Cyborg’s boxing debut and, due to the greatness of Taylor, understandably viewed as a mismatch.

This scenario bares a resemblance to Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor back in 2017.

Five years on though, we may have a crossover boxing vs MMA fight which ends in a result Irish supporters can celebrate.
