Orbis Hotel Group, the largest network of hotels in Eastern Europe, has announced plans to expand its portfolio in Romania with a further 10 properties by 2022.

“Romania’s rising popularity and attractiveness for international hotel brands is fueled by the positive economic perspectives of the country, by its rich history, beautiful nature and rich culture around food and wines,” said Frank Reul, head of development of Orbis and Accor in Eastern Europe. “The competition on the hospitality market is growing but that’s part of the game and we’re happy to see that more and more local and international investors are deciding to work with one of Accor’s world renowned brands.”

Orbis currently operates 11 hotels in Romania under various Accor brands: Pullman, Novotel, Mercure, ibis and ibis Styles. They will be joined by Mercure hotels in Sibiu and Timișoara and an ibis Styles at Bucharest airport later this year, as well as three properties in 2020, three in 2021 – including Romania’s first Swissôtel – and one in 2022.

Accor and Orbis have also declared themselves open to attractive commercial property projects outside the hotel business. Since 2017, Accor has been investing in co-working spaces through a joint venture with Bouygues Immobilier through the NextDoor product, recently rebranded as Wojo.

Earlier this month Accor said it wants to introduce 1,200 Wojo co-working spaces across Europe over the next three years.
