Romania joined the group of European Union states that have accepted that the coronavirus pandemic should be a driver for the economic recovery of the Green Deal. The Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities send a letter for thanking Romania to the counterpart ministry, as Mircea Fechet, State Secretary at Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests said at Business Review’s recent Environmental & Sustainability Summit 2020.

”The fact that we accepted this political decision at Government level and the ministers have understood that it is very important to join these states is something that will help us a lot in the future. The help is not only political, but also regarding the amounts that will be made available to the states by the European Union through the Green Deal,” says Mircea Fechet.

The State Secretary shows that, while the ministry has more regulatory attribute role, through the environmental fund budget is injecting money into the market. ”This year, the environmental fund’s budget is the largest in its history, respectively RON 2.8 billion, and we are very happy that electric vehicles are starting to sell better,” says Mircea Fechet. The sales are also sustained by the fact that Romania has the largest eco-ticket in the UE, of EUR 10,000.

”We have recently started an energy efficiency program for residential buildings, through which individuals can access funds to transform their buildings funds up to 15,000 euros. Thus, reducing the footprint of carbon emissions and reducing the value of bills. We also invest a lot in public and ecological lighting, also to reduce consumption and emissions. Moreover, we have ambitious programs for the energy efficiency of public buildings,” says Mircea Fechet.

He explained that In terms of public transport, this year, the number of cities that are funded is expanding from 3 to 10.
