The Georgian National Wine Agency has announced that Georgia’s export wine sales amounted to 114.2 million US dollars during the first seven months of this year, a six per cent increase compared with the corresponding period of 2018, agenda.ge has reported.

According to the Wine Agency, close to 47.2 million bottles of wine were sold in the January-July period, showing a four per cent increase year-on-year.

Russia has remained the biggest importer of Georgian wine, having purchased more than 29 million bottles (around 62 per cent of all sales). Ukraine came in second with close to 4.9 million bottles while China was ranked third among the top countries buying Georgian wine, having purchased more than 4.2 million bottles. Poland, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Latvia, United States, Lithuania and Estonia also made it to the top ten.

The Wine Agency registered a 60 per cent increase in exports to the US, a 39 per cent increase to the UK, and a 21 per cent increase to China, all of which are considered “strategic export markets” for the Georgian wine sector.
