Kieran Trippier was seen unsuccessfully trying to force his Newcastle teammates to applaud the home crowd after their humiliating FA Cup third round 1-0 defeat against Cambridge.
Joe Ironside’s second half winner condemned Newcastle to yet another early cup exit, having only made it past the FA Cup fourth round once in the last 16 years.

Spirits were raised pre-match though, with new signing Kieran Trippier on show following his £12million move from reigning LaLiga champions Atletico Madrid.
Trippier became the first player to join Newcastle since they became the richest club in the world when they were purchased by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund in October.
However, despite high hopes of a trophy-winning future, things haven’t gone well for the Magpies so far. New manager Eddie Howe has only managed one league win in two months in the job.
And the performance against League One outfit Cambridge was a new low for the side in a Premier League relegation battle, despite the arrival of an England international.

After the game, gutted club legend Alan Shearer felt for the near capacity 52,000 Geordie fans who turned up only to see their side lose.
“I hope they went and thanked them because they deserved more than the rubbish that was served up today,” he said.
Unfortunately that wasn’t the case though.
As the full-time whistle blew at St. James Park, Trippier was instantly seen congratulating his opponents on their stunning win, but he had little support moments later.

Reports from inside the ground claim only a small number of players remained on the field and joined manager Howe and his staff to applaud the home supporters.
Trippier was one of them, and attempted to call back his teammates who headed for the tunnel, only to be ignored.
Newcastle were coming off of a huge performance where they were unlucky to only take a point from Manchester United in the Premier League.
But now things have taken a huge step back during a January transfer window that will be integral for the team’s chances of top flight survival.
