LOT continues expansion of Budapest hub

Polish flag carrier LOT has announced plans to launch direct flights from its new hub in Budapest, Hungary, to Seoul in South Korea. The route will be operated three times per week by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and flights will commence in September.

LOT also announced that it will begin operating short-haul routes from Budapest to Belgrade, Brussels, Bucharest, Prague, Sofia and Stuttgart in 2020. The carrier has had to reschedule its short-haul expansion however due to fleet constraints resulting from the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX.

LOT recorded an operating profit of 209 million zloty (49.1 million euros) in 2018, and expects similar results in 2019. CEO Rafał Milczarski recently said that the carrier aims to increase passenger numbers from 10 million per annum to 25 million per annum by 2027.
