Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Oleksandr Usyk are highly unlikely to ever fight, according to the Mexican’s head trainer Eddy Reynoso, but the esteemed coach has a potential next opponent for the world heavyweight champion.
Usyk ran riot at cruiserweight after a glittering amateur career, replicating his success up at heavyweight when he defeated Anthony Joshua in September to become IBF, WBA, and WBO champion.

Canelo himself is set to try his hand up at 200lbs, with a fight against defending WBC heavyweight champion Ilungu Makabu scheduled for some point in 2022.
The goal for the Mexican superstar is clear; to become a five-weight world champion having cleared out the entire super-middleweight division in less than 12 months.
Yet Usyk teased the possibility of coming back down to the division he once reigned supreme over in an attempt to seriously cement his pound-for-pound dominance.
However, Canelo’s trainer Reynoso insisted he has other plans for the 31-year-old superstar – and wants to pit another of his pupils, Frank Sanchez, against Usyk.
“No, no way, there is no chance that [Canelo] will fight Usyk,” Reynoso told Lester Silva.
“He’s a heavyweight fighter, that’s what we have Frank Sanchez there for and that would be a great fight.”

Sanchez is ranked No.5 by the WBC, an organisation that does not even list Joshua in their ranks.
“We are going to look for a world championship fight in 2022,” he added. “Frank is ranked at number four in the WBC and within the top five of the other organizations, so we’ll keep working and keep learning.
“Hopefully we get [the world title shot], we are very excited. More than anything the discipline and hunger that Frank has shown in the gym, the learning that he has had, little by little, gives us the guideline to think about that.”
