Ruben Neves wanted by Manchester United but Wolves star should ignore Premier League rivals as he has as much chance at winning trophies at Molineux

Ruben Neves is a wanted man, with Manchester United leading the chase to sign Wolves’ creative maestro, talkSPORT understands.

However, talkSPORT pundit Danny Mills believes making the move to Premier League rivals United would not enhance the 24-year-old’s chances of winning trophies.

Neves has previously admitted he wants to play Champions League football againGETTY

United were keen on signing Neves last summer and could make an attempt to prise the Portugal star away from Molineux this month.

Neves still has two years remaining on his contract at Wolves, and talkSPORT understand the club would want at least £50million to let their star man go, which is considerably below what Man United are prepared to pay.

Wolves currently sit just three points below United in the Premier League after beating them 1-0 away for the first time in 42 years on Monday night, thanks to a 82nd minute goal from Joao Moutinho.

A move to Manchester would see Neves join his fellow countrymen Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano RonaldoGETTY The midfielder has also attracted attention from Premier League big guns Arsenal and ChelseaGETTY

Bruno Lage’s side looked heads and shoulders above a below-par United side, much better organised and more threatening when in front of goal.

And Mills says there are more reasons why Neves should remain in the Midlands, saying silverware is just as likely to be won at Wolves than if he made the move to Old Trafford.

“Wolves have got as much of a chance at winning the Carabao Cup or the FA Cup,” the former Man City and England defender told talkSPORT on Kick Off.

“Manchester United aren’t going to win the Premier League, and they’re not going to win the Champions League.

“Wolves might get into the Europa League, and they’ll have a better chance of winning the Europa League than Manchester United will have at winning the Champions League.”

Jota has thrived at Liverpool and played Champions League football since joining from WolvesGETTY

It’s likely Wolves will not be keen on giving up their star midfielder, especially given the minimal investment in the previous transfer window.

However, if Diogo Jota‘s move from Molineux to Liverpool in 2020 is anything to go by, Wolves can be convinced to sell their best assets… for the right price.

When asked about Neves’ situation heading into the transfer window, manager Lage said: “Ruben feels this is his second home – and happiness comes with that.

“That’s good, but it’s another thing to convince him to stay. It’s not about a contract or money. It’s about creating a big team that fights for different things.

“Ruben is in that place where he needs a different challenge. And we also want a different challenge for the club.”
