The Romanian platform Brio.ro uses artificial intelligence and launches the training module in mathematics

Brio.ro, the first and only standardized digital testing platform in Romania, upgrades its types of tests available on the platform, by launching a “training” module in mathematics based on programmatic generation of items. At launch, the tests will be available in beta for the first 200 students in grades I-IV who register on the platform (option available in “My Account”), and within approximately one month the tests will be publicly accessible, to be developed later for grades V-VIII and high school.

The development of the training module is carried out following a funding of EUR 30,000 obtained in the Innovators for Children accelerator, a program developed by Impact Hub Bucharest, in partnership with Impact Hub Basel and Fondation Botnar.

Compared to the standardized tests available on the platform so far, which aim to assess a higher volume of learning, the training tests consist of a smaller number of questions, of 10-20 problems each, and focus on learning and fixing knowledge in certain chapters or subchapters where the student needs training to master it better.

“By launching this new test module we offer a much more complex tool to help improve knowledge and increase student performance. For example, if after a standardized test the report highlights gaps in certain types of knowledge, the students can then run training tests only on that type of problem, until they notices that the results have improved. In addition, the students can choose the training tests aligned with what is currently taught in class, so that they can learn the subject much more easily, throughout the year. Brio® becomes, thus, more than an evaluation provider, but a learning provider”, says professor Dragoș Iliescu, CEO, Chief Scientist and founder Brio®.Read more aboutUiPath Foundation and Brio® make the first free digital literacy test available to the public, with BCR as project implementation partner read more

The mathematics training test module available on Brio.ro  is based on the programmatic, dynamic and randomized generation of items.

“We all agree that learning, especially in the exact sciences, is based on constant practice and training. For this reason, each training test on Brio.ro can be structured into categories, so that the student can choose what he wants to work, contains different problems, with unique statements and data. The child will see in real time on the screen if he answered a question correctly or incorrectly and, respectively, what was the correct answer. A standardized Brio® test is tested even on 10,000 students, so we aim to reach an extensive database in the case of training tests, so that we can generate the degree of difficulty for each of these training tests,” says Adi Matei, Product Manager Brio®.

Created with the expertise of an extensive team of professors and specialists in psychometrics and marketing, the Brio® platform integrates hundreds of thousands of tests and has already been used by over 100,000 users. Through this unique training test module, to be patented, Brio® makes the transition from a diagnostic tool that shows the current level of knowledge to an intervention that helps improve results. The stated objective of the founder of Brio® is to consolidate the position on the local market, broadening the horizon of the audience, but also of the type of customers. After consolidating on the Romanian market, the company aims at developing Brio.ro internationally.

Currently, Brio.ro offers tests for mathematics and the Romanian language, which fully cover the school curriculum, but also literacy tests, and in the next period will be added tests of history, biology, chemistry, physics or digital literacy. Any parent or teacher registered in the platform can access free literacy tests to assess the first level of literacy, and testing with Brio® in other disciplines is accessible based on subscriptions between 25 and 49 lei per month, depending on the chosen benefits.

“In the long run, the platform could become a kind of ‘one pitstop’ in everything that means testing or evaluating in education. We also want to introduce tests that are not necessarily related to school skills – which will always remain the essential activity for Brio.ro – but to skills so necessary during this period: digital, financial literacy, numbering, etc. We are already preparing such tests that will offer us more than the measure of children’s school performance, namely the measure of their future adaptability in the society in which they will live,” states Prof. Dragoș Iliescu.
