Alan Shearer has phoned out-of-form striker Marcus Rashford as the Manchester United man’s recent slump has provoked concern from pundits.

Rashford’s season started late due to shoulder surgery following Euro 2020, but he’s since only managed three goals and an assist in 15 games.

Rashford’s performance against Aston Villa in the FA Cup was a low point Rashford hasn’t looked like himself all seasonAFP

The likes of Steve McClaren and Dimitar Berbatov have discussed Rashford’s glaring drop off, with the 24-year-old’s struggles clearly on display during United’s edgy 1-0 FA Cup win over Aston Villa.

Rashford is now without a goal in 11 games, and has received support from the Premier League’s all-time top scorer.

Reports claim the Newcastle and England legend offered Rashford advice on dealing with the intense pressure and expectation he is currently under and assured the young forward he will come through his current struggles.

Shearer was in attendance on Monday night as a pundit for the BBC, and will have been aware of the Old Trafford crowd’s discontent with Rashford’s display.

Rashford and his England teammates Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka were the victims of disgraceful racial abuse following their missed penalties in the Euro 2020 final, and a number of the Three Lions squad have struggled since.

Key men Harry Maguire and Harry Kane have looked well below their best back at club level, while Jack Grealish has also failed to live up to his high standards this season.

Rashford was left heartbroken at Euro 2020 and shoulder surgery made matters worse

Rashford has scored over 20 goals in all competitions for United in each of the last two seasons, but looks set to end up well short of that total this campaign.

Another Premier League great, Paul Ince, has also contacted Rashford in an effort to provide support with new manager Ralf Rangnick unsure why things aren’t clicking on the pitch.

“Actually I don’t know,” Rangnick said when asked about why things aren’t working.

“He’s trying hard, he’s in training, he was doing really well in the last couple of days, that’s why he was quite rightly in the starting XI.”
