In a total of 35 appearances and nine goals, former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has had his fair share of epic moments against Manchester United.

All eyes will be fixed on the recently-installed Aston Villa manager, stepping out at Old Trafford as his team take on Man United in the FA Cup third round.

Thumping 4-0 defeat, 2003

In a battle where Manchester United reclaimed the (then-titled) Premiership high ground with a vital victory over fierce rivals Liverpool, Gerrard has most likely deleted this moment from his memory.

Sami Hyypia’s tackle on Ruud van Nistelrooy resulted in a red card leaving Liverpool with only 10 men within the first three minutes. Shocker.

Van Nistelrooy’s double penalty along with Ryan Giggs and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s second-half strikes saw the home team thump the Reds.

Last-minute heartache, 2006

Liverpool’s persistent dominance throughout the entire match was crushed by Rio Ferdinand, whose stole the three points for United with a spectacular winning header.

The result put the Red Devils four points clear of Liverpool in the league, who eventually finished in second place.

Camera Kiss, 2009

Ronaldo opened the scoring, but Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Fabio Aurelio and Andrea Dossena stole the thunder in an epic 4-1 victory.

And it wasn’t just the outstanding result that caused attraction, it was Gerrard’s infamous goal celebration which till this day lives in our heads rent free.

After netting in from the penalty spot, Gerrard kissed the TV camera in front of the jubilant away supporters packed into the corner.

Red Carded, 2011

Kenny Dalglish’s first game back in charge of Liverpool should have been a celebratory moment, however instead it turned into a nightmare.

In the gruelling third round FA Cup tie, Liverpool’s hopes of succeeding came to a halt after Ryan Giggs netted in the first and only goal and Gerrard being sent off.

A clash with Michael Carrick resulted in a red card and Gerrard was dismissed just 32 minutes into the cup clash – bad timing.

3-0 victory, 2014

This time around, winning at Old Trafford was a walk in the park for Liverpool as Gerrard scored two penalties and Luis Suarez rounded off the hatrick in the second half.

And in all the excitement, Gerrard recreated the camera kiss celebration – we loved to see it.
