John Terry is reportedly set to return to Chelsea after five years away from Stamford Bridge.

According to The Athletic, the 41-year-old will return to west London in the new year to assist the youth development side in the academy.

One of the club’s best ever players, the 41-year-old captained Chelsea at the start of a new dynasty of success for the west Londoners.

He won five Premier League titles, five FA Cups and a Champions League title in his time at Stamford Bridge, becoming the club’s most decorated player.

He also lifted five league cups and a Europa League in more than 700 appearances for Chelsea.

The former England international will be tasked with finding the the next Mason Mount and Reece James at Stamford Bridge, like his legendary former Blues teammate Frank Lampard did.

After one successful season at Derby, Lampard was handed the reins at Stamford Bridge and steered them to the top four without their talisman at the time, Eden Hazard, in his first season.

He was sacked after 18 months in charge, however, before Thomas Tuchel took and won the Champions League in his first six months in the role.

Terry, meanwhile, departed from his role as Dean Smith’s assistant at Aston Villa last summer and it’s understood he’s been offered several roles as manager.

Terry, who also captain for England for six years, will be hoping to replicate former team-mates Lampard, Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard and take his first steps in management in the near future.
