Jose Mourinho may be wishing Serie A’s winter break lasted a bit longer as his Roma side suffered a 3-1 defeat to AC Milan on Thursday night.

The scoreline did not reflect the full drama of the game as Mourinho’s team had two players sent off and Milan could, and should, have scored more.

The game got off to a nightmare start for the visitors as Tammy Abraham gave away a penalty in the seventh minute.

It was his former Chelsea teammate Olivier Giroud who stepped up and put Milan ahead.

Things went from bad to worse as Junior Messias doubled the lead for the home side as they looked to keep pace with rivals Inter at the top of the table.

Abraham atoned for giving away a penalty as he deflected the ball into the back of the net with his heel five minutes before the break.

It was his seventh Serie A goal of the season to add to the three assists he already has.

The action packed first 45 minutes saw four yellow cards dished out and it was Roma who were reduced to 10 men in the second half.

Rick Karsdorp was given his marching orders to make Mourinho’s side task even tougher.

Rafael Leao then put the game beyond them with an 82nd minute goal to give them a two goal cushion.

There was more drama still to come, though, as Gianluca Mancini also saw red as Roma went down to nine men.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic then saw a last minute penalty saved by Rui Patricio to spare Mourinho’s team even more embarrassment.
