Lviv Region in Double Logistics Boost

A major new logistics center is to be built in the Lviv region of Ukraine close to the border with Poland, offering huge advantages for both countries.

“Each participant has much to gain,” Roman Matys at the Lviv Regional State Administration tells Emerging Europe. “Cargo from the EU will be able to enter Ukraine without hindrance, without changing carriage or reloading onto different rolling stock. Poland will be able to develop freight transport in its eastern districts, while for Ukraine, the project is important for faster and closer integration with the EU.”

According to Mr Matys, the project should be given over to private entrepreneurs: the regional administration will prepare the land and conduct an auction for its sale, so that entrepreneurs can buy any particular plot and implement the project themselves in accordance with their business plans.

The status of the plots which are to be allocated is currently under verification, and an investment project to businessmen by the regional authorities in the spring of 2018.

“The goal of this project is to create an effective international railway communication between Poland, other EU countries and Ukraine,” Mr Matys added. “In this context, it is clearly advisable to construct a new combined track, in particular on the Mostyska-1 section at Rodatychi near Gorodok. The length is 29 km.”

Mr Matys also said that Pricewaterhouse Coopers had agreed to open a BPO centre in Lviv. “After months of work with them, they have finally taken the decision to go ahead and open the centre. It is great news for the region,” he said.
