Maserati will be joining Formula E for season 9 in 2023.

The legendary luxury manufacturer will debut in the Formula E World Championship in 12 months time, the season in which the all new Gen3 – Formula E’s lightest & most powerful racing car to date – will debut.

Davide Grasso, CEO Maserati, and Alejandro Agag, chairman of Formula E

Maserati is the first Italian brand to compete in Formula E and they are well known for the expensive cars they produce on the roads with some of their cars costing in the hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Alejandro Agag, Founder & Chairman, Formula E, said: “We are proud to welcome Maserati to their new home in world-class motorsport. The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is the pinnacle of electric racing.

“It provides the perfect environment for the most dynamic and innovative high-performance car brands to showcase their technological capabilities alongside their sporting ambitions.”

Maserati also say “All new Maserati models will also be available in 100% electric solutions including Maserati Grecale, Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio and the Maserati MC20 super sportscar.”

The next generation of Formula E cars is coming

Maserati’s last appearance in motorsport was in the FIA GT Championship, in which they won 22 races (including 3 victories in the 24 Hours of Spa) and 14 Championship titles across Constructors’ Championships, Drivers’ Championships and Teams’ Championships from 2004 to 2010.

Their arrival in Formula E marks a long-awaited return to motorsport for the iconic luxury car brand.

Davide Grasso, Maserati CEO, commented: “We are very proud to be back where we belong as protagonists in the world of racing. We are powered by passion and innovative by nature.

“We have a long history of world-class excellence in competition and we are ready to drive performance in the future.”
