Nestlé continues its awareness campaign this summer “Less Waste More Love”

On the occasion of the World Oceans Day, Nestlé launches the second edition of the awareness campaign “Less Waste More Love”. This campaign is part of the Nestlé for a Waste Free World Initiative and is a social responsibility initiative designed to draw attention to the importance of protecting the environment, highlighting the activities that the company implements each year with what each of us can do at home. Within this project, a series of informational, educational, and awareness activities will be carried out in three directions: the conscious use of water, the selective collection and recycling of packaging, and the reduction of carbon emissions.

”Less Waste More Love” campaign starts with the efforts made in recent years to support the local community and support the implementation of sustainable practices for water awareness and protection, disposal of waste dumped in the environment, but also for reduction carbon footprint to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

The campaign is based on national statistics, where less than 10% of all waste is recycled and 6,000 tons of food are wasted every day. Based on the company’s mission to develop increasingly tasty and healthier products, Nestlé brings together under the umbrella of this campaign the main directions in which each of us can act sustainably to protect the planet’s resources.

Both globally and locally, Nestlé is stepping up its efforts to use water responsibly, ensuring 100% sustainability of river basins in operation by 2025, but also constantly working to reduce the amount of water entering the process of production. At the individual level, each of us can contribute to reducing water consumption in the kitchen, through inventive recipes and tricks for reusing and capitalizing on every drop of water. Because a sustainable change of behavior requires the involvement of the young generation from the first years of school, this year the company works with the PRAIS Foundation within the National Movement “I live healthy, too!” to encourage some seemingly insignificant habits, but which can have a major long-term impact.Read more about#25x25Interview | Irina Siminenco, Nestlé România: A quarter of a century is measured by the value we bring to the Romanian economy and communities read more

To increase recycling rates nationwide, three components are needed: the recyclability of packaging, an appropriate infrastructure for separate collection, but also the decision taken by each of us to dispose of recyclable packaging in the right bin. For the first component, Nestlé has stepped up its efforts to transform its packaging into 100% recyclable or reusable packaging by 2025 and to reduce the use of new plastics by a third, 87% of which have already achieved this goal. To support sustainable behavior change, the “Less Waste More Love” campaign encourages reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill through collective selection and recycling.

Nestlé is already working to halve its GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions by 2030, to reach zero net emissions by 2050. Net zero emissions mean a drastic reduction in GHG emissions throughout food chain, Farm-to-fork, together with the implementation of carbon dioxide storage projects in the soil and by planting trees. Nestlé’s strategic directions are moving to regenerative agriculture and supporting healthy soils, supplying cocoa and coffee from sustainable sources, rethinking production and transport methods and promoting sustainable products among consumers. The activities included in the “Less Waste More Love” campaign are meant to encourage the reduction of everyone’s carbon footprint by reinterpreting the way we relate to technology, traffic, and lifestyle.

“At Nestlé, over the last ten years, sustainability indicators show a 88% decrease in water consumption, an 85% reduction in waste and a 72% decrease in carbon dioxide emissions. Last year’s results of the “Less Waste More Love” campaign encouraged us to continue, this year having with us the PRAIS Foundation and the parents’ community within the National Movement “I live healthy, too!”, as well as a series of strategic partners”, says Irina Siminenco, Corporate Affairs Manager Nestlé Romania.

The Nestlé for a Waste Free World Initiative brings together all the actions that the company aims to have, by 2030, zero impact on the environment in all its operations. By 2025, Nestlé reaffirms its commitment to use 100% recyclable or reusable packaging and reduce the use of new plastics globally by a third, working with its partners to promote the principles of the circular economy and clean up plastic waste in the oceans, lakes and rivers. Nestlé will invest CHF 3.2 billion globally over the next five years to accelerate zero net emissions, including CHF 1.2 billion to launch regenerative agriculture throughout the supply chain, from farm to consumer (Farm-to-fork).
