NOAA, AMS to host national weather satellite conference June 2, 2022

Media are invited to attend the 2022 Collective Madison Meeting offsite link hosted by NOAA and the American Meteorological Society (AMS), where top leaders and data users of the world’s most advanced weather satellite systems will convene in Madison, Wisconsin, from August 8-12, 2022.
The theme for the meeting is “Turning the Page.” The global pandemic has caused a major disruption to society, and the weather, water and climate enterprise is proceeding with a renewed focus on exploring the changing climate and Earth system, and proposing new observational capabilities to understand weather, the environment and its hazards. The program will incorporate this theme and elements to present a shared vision for the future of remote sensing, user applications and related science, with a focus on 2030 and beyond.
The Collective Madison Meeting is being held concurrently with the Joint 2022 NOAA Satellite Conference and the 25th Conference on Satellite Meteorology and Oceanography, the 17th Conference on Polar Meteorology and Oceanography and the 16th Conference on Cloud Physics/16th Conference on Atmospheric Radiation. The meeting will cover a range of topics on satellite science, technology and innovation, including:
- Weather satellite and instrument plans.
- History of satellite meteorology, and Madison’s importance to the development of weather satellites.
- Monitoring Earth’s climate with satellites.
- Impacts of weather extremes in a changing climate.
- Satellite observations of the oceans and polar regions.
- Satellite user preparation and training.
- Using satellites to detect river flooding and understanding land use.
