DS Smith, leading sustainable packaging company is launching a pilot project on environmental education, in schools across Zărnești. Developed in partnership with Brașov County School Inspectorate, the initiative targets elementary school students and is aimed at providing useful information on environmental protection and recycling, while also stressing the importance of sustainability and the circular economy.

The program is tailored to fit the current schooling scenarios and may be implemented both online or in classrooms. Teachers will be offered attractive educational resources and advice, especially developed by DS Smith’s Zărnești paper mill, helping children to get a better understanding of the key concepts around more sustainable behaviours. All the information accessed during the lesson can then be applied in the day to day life.

Diana Ciuraru, Human Resources Director at DS Smith Zărnești stated: “Our mission at DS Smith is to change things for the better and meet community needs. This is even more relevant if we talk about selective waste management and recycling, and so our environmental education project has been developed. We wish to engage children in how to care for the environment in an entertaining way that feels accessible to them. We are confident that this initiative will be well received and may be replicated, in the future, at a county or even at a national level.”

Economic and industrial development has generated a significant increase in consumption and consequently a higher pace at which the planet resources are being used. Therefore, there is an ever-growing need to educate the next generation in terms of environmental protection, selective waste management and recycling. DS Smith is committed to play an active part at Zărnești community level and bring a positive contribution, stressing the role of sustainability.Read more aboutDS Smith achieves maximum scores across several categories in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) read more
