The Belarusian subsidary of Polish IKEA supplier GABI Group has announced that it will build a manufacturing factory for the Swedish furniture giant in Grodno, Belarus.

The new factory will be built in the Belarusian special economic zone of GrodnoInvest and built on an area of 20,000 square kilometres, with its own woodworking base and pellet production facilities.

“The [IKEA] investment project is export-oriented. Companies of the IKEA group within the European Union and the countries of the Commmonwealth of Independent States will be the main consumers of these products,” GrodnoInvest said in a statement.

Once completed, the investment will create 170 jobs in the Grodno area.
