Simona Halep won a two-hour battle against Julia Goerges at Qatar Total Open in order to move to semi-finals. In the last four she will met Elina Svitolina who upset Karolina Muchova.

The battle against Goerges lasted two-hours even if it finished in just two sets( 7-6, 7-6). No. 9 had Halep on the ropes for most of the match, but the Romanian found ways to fight back and won the tie-break in both sets. In the last tie-break, Halep saved 2 set points before her first (and only) match point.

For Halep it is the first tournament with the new coach Thierry Van Cleemput, ut she didn’t ask for help in the match against Goerges even if she seemed in trouble at some point.

Simona Halep managed to return to the second place on WTA rankings after the winnings in Doha tournament.
