Following the decision of the National Committee for Emergency Situations (No. 20 / 25.03.2021) to establish quarantine in localities where the infection rate is over 4/1000 inhabitants, we had to temporarily close World Class clubs, sending home almost 60 thousand Romanians who had just returned to their healthy exercising routine and started to enjoy the huge health benefits of being active.

World Class has acted responsibly to the Covid-19 outbreak since its very start. In order to support the national effort to diminish the risk of coronavirus contamination and provide the most effective infection prevention and control, we did it in a way that dramatically diminished the risk of spreading the coronavirus, in line with local and national authorities’ advice and guidelines.

Health & fitness clubs are proven to be safe. The SafeActive study conducted in October 2020 by EuropeActive announces: the risk of contracting COVID-19 in fitness clubs is extremely low! Only 0.78 infections per 100,000 visits to fitness clubs!

“The Health & Fitness Industry should be classified as essential business to support the health of the nation and should reopen the Gyms and Indoor swimming pools! With almost 1 million members in Romania the gyms have an essential role to keep Romanians active and healthy. We all have a responsibility to follow restrictions and fight this pandemic and one of the most efficient way is to exercise in safe and controlled environment to strengthen everyone’s immune system. Following strict safety and cleanliness measures, the risk of contracting COVID-19 in fitness clubs is extremely low. Gyms are a controlled and safe environment to exercise in.

World Class strongly believes, backed by the most prestigious medical studies conducted on this subject matter, that it is vital to keep people physically active and that physical exercise strongly supports the health of the nation and the recovery of the Economy.

Even under these most difficult circumstances, World Class will continue to take steps towards its mission: inspiring more Romanian to be more active more often and live a healthy lifestyle” said Kent Orrgren, CEO World Class Romania.

Exercising is proven to prevent and also help treat the most common chronic diseases in the world: cardiovascular conditions, diabetes and obesity! It also has a major role in preventing respiratory tract infections. Romanians need to stay active especially now, when the coronavirus is known to cause the worst outcome in patients with heart disease, diabetes and obesity!

Indoor swimming pools have been officially closed since 17th of March last year. Swimming has extraordinary benefits for overall health. It also lowers the risk of diseases that are known to pose high risks to COVID-19 patients. Reopening indoor swimming pools will provide Romanians access to the enormous health benefits of swimming and aqua training, both for kids and adults.

The message of General Director of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is also more than conclusive: “Being physically active can help to add years to life and life to years. Every move counts, especially now as we manage the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic. We must all move every day – safely and creatively”.

NHS has also studied the most common places to catch coronavirus and the data reveals that gyms are at the bottom of the list with only 1,1% risk!

It is proven that gyms are a controlled and safe environment, when following all measures as distancing, cleanliness routines before and after using equipment.

World Class clubs operates with full adoption of all sanitary, safety and prevention standards: intensively sanitization of club areas and equipment surfaces, cleaning stations, air nebulisation, physical distancing, limiting the occupancy of clubs, and as well as screening employees and members for Covid-19 symptoms.

All preventative measures adopted by World Clubs during the pandemic resulted in providing a safe training environment for almost 60 thousand Romanians who were satisfied to restart their health & fitness routine. Since all studies shows that there is very low, if any, rate of spreading infections in gyms, closing health & fitness clubs again will only diminish the health of the nation.

There is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, spas, or water play areas.” (Center for Disease Control and Prevention)

World Class calls for classifying Gyms, Health and Fitness Industry as essential business, a plan for making Romanians healthier and reopening of the Gyms and indoor swimming pools. World Class and the Health and Fitness Industry wants to work with the authorities to make this be implemented in a safe, controlled and healthy way!
