Newcastle fans are hoping new signing Kieran Trippier can find the mark a little easier than in his announcement photos after missing the badge in his announcement photos.

The defender moved from Atletico Madrid for a fee of £12million after three years in Spain, where he became a mainstay for Diego Simeone.

However, with the backing of new Saudi owners, the lure of the Magpies became too much ignore and Trippier has completed a return to his home country.

The England international is renowned for his accuracy from dead ball situations and crossing from the flanks, yet seemed to miss his badge and pointed at his sleeve during his announcement photos – much to the delight of fans on Twitter.

User Janmpolsky wrote on Twitter: “Hope he’s more accurate with his crosses!”

Fan Willftbl added: “Let’s hope he can pick out a man better than he can pick out the badge.”

And Lee Cruickshank wrote: “That’s where the championship badge will be, next season.”

Despite the 31-year-old’s lackadaisical pointing skills, new boss Eddie Howe is confident Trippier can be the first of many new signings as part of the Magpie’s revolution.

“It’s a sign that the club has a huge pull – and I’m not talking financial here,” he said at his pre-match press conference before the FA Cup game against Cambridge United.

“Kieran hasn’t come for the financial benefits of the contract. He’s come for the club and for the challenge that the team faces at the current time, but also the longer-term vision, so I think that’s a massive thing for the football club.

“Hopefully with his signing, other players around the world will potentially look at that and share his dream and his vision for what he sees. That’s a big thing for us.”
