Emerging Europe has the continent’s cheapest alcohol, according to new figures from the European Unions’s statistics unit, Eurostat.

Cheapest of all are Bulgaria and Romania, where the price of a drink is 26 per cent below the EU average.

The Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia can also all boast prices below the EU average.

Only Croatia, Latvia and Estonia have prices above the bloc’s average. Estonia is in fact on the most expensive places in the European Union to buy a drink, with prices 26 per cent higher than the EU average. The country’s prices remain well below those of nearby Finland, however, which has the most expensive alcohol in the EU.
