Ralph Hasenhuttl fuming after Burnley vs Leicester postponement as Southampton boss reiterates calls for new signings to be barred from rearranged matches

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has reiterated his view that new signings should not be able to play in rescheduled Premier League games.

After the Saints’ clash with Newcastle was called off, the Austrian insisted that it was ‘not fair’ for new signings to play in rearranged games.

Hasenhuttl has not been happy with how the Premier League have dealt with postponementsAFP

And, after Burnley vs Leicester was postponed on Friday, he has repeated these comments, claiming that the Premier League and clubs need to be more transparent about the situation.

This comes after Chris Wood moved from the Clarets to relegation rivals Newcastle, which has resulted in them not having enough players for this weekend’s game.

“I think they have opened the door now and you can’t be surprised if people are walking through,” he said.

“I can’t speak about the situation there [at Burnley] with Covid, this is why they cancel games normally. We have no view, no transparency so we can’t say anything.

“The rest is speculation, they [Burnley] just lost their striker [Chris Wood], I don’t know. The Premier League has to handle this.

“This is why I say, new signings shouldn’t be allowed to play [in rearranged games] if they weren’t there before.

“This is a problem the Premier League have now and it’s hard to solve in this moment.”
